✦ ENJOYMENT TIPS & TRICKS
💡 Tip # 1: Quality Matters ⭐
The quality of your coffee makes all the difference. Our specialty-grade, roasted-to-order beans are crafted to meet the highest standards—so every cup meets the high-quality criteria!
💡 Tip #2: Consume Sooner Rather Than Later ⏳
To experience your coffee at its freshest and most flavorful, aim to brew it within 3–4 weeks (21–28 days) of receiving it. Enjoy your coffee soon after brewing, ideally within an hour, to capture its best flavors and aromas!
💡 Tip #3: Select The Right Grind Size ⚙️
Choosing the correct grind size is crucial for your brewing method. We make this a breeze by offering four different types of grinds! Check out our quick two-step reference visual on the left or the more detailed guide in the section below.
💡 Tip #4: Mind Its Storage ☀️
Store coffee beans or grinds in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. This preserves their freshness longer! Avoid the fridge as it can introduce moisture and odors. A cool, dark pantry is ideal.
💡 Tip #5: Use Good Water 💧
The quality of water used has a SIGNIFICANT impact on your coffee's taste. After all, it represents 99% of the liquid in your cup! Use fresh, cold water that is filtered or free of impurities. Avoid distilled or softened water to maintain the coffee's complete flavor profile.
💡 Tip #6: Brew At The Right Temperature: 🌡️
Brew Cold: Cold brew uses water well below the higher temperatures, typically used to make hot-brewed or iced coffee. It is generally made using room-temperature water (around 68°F or 20°C). This temperature eliminates acidity and brings out the coffee's sweetness and body.
Brew Hot: Ideal water temperature for brewing most coffee is between 195°F to 205°F (just below boiling). If the water is too cold, you run the risk of under-extraction, and the coffee may end up weak or sour. Similarly, if the water is too hot, you run the risk of over-extraction, leaving the coffee bitter. The following temperature ranges offer a bit more precision based on your coffee's roast level: Light Roast (199–205°F), Medium Roast (194–200°F), Dark Roast (188–194°F or cooler).
💡 Tip #7: Serve In A Pre-Chilled/Pre-Warmed Cup: ❄️♨️
Cold Brew or Iced Coffee: Pre-chill your cup before pouring coffee into it, especially if making a cold brew or iced coffee or when the environment is warm. This prevents the coffee from warming up too quickly and helps maintain its respective flavor profile and aroma. To pre-chill a cup, simply place the glass in the freezer for 15 minutes, put it upside down in an ice bucket, or fill it with ice before covering it with water!
Hot Coffee: Pre-warm your cup or mug before pouring coffee into it, especially if making espresso or when the environment is cold. This prevents the coffee from cooling too quickly and helps maintain its flavor profile and aroma. To pre-warm a cup, you can simply pour boiling water into it and let it sit for a couple of minutes!
💡 Tip #8: Clean & Maintain Your Equipment: 🧽
Regular cleaning of your coffee maker (and grinder if applicable) is essential to avoid the buildup of coffee oils and residue, which can impact taste. Rinse removable parts with warm, soapy water (daily). Clean the coffee maker with a mix of water and vinegar to descale and remove mineral deposits (weekly). Finally, all equipment components must be deeply cleaned and checked for any wear and tear (monthly). Lastly, be sure to properly clean your equipment before switching to a new coffee.
Happy brewing! 👊😎
✦ COLD BREW PREPARATION GUIDE 🧊
Not to be confused with iced coffee, cold brew is a brewing method that transforms the flavor profile of coffee, offering a smoother, lower-acidity taste compared to traditional hot brews. Ready to experience the unique taste of cold brew coffee for yourself? Follow these simple steps to brew your own refreshing cold brew at home! 🤿🤙
1️⃣ Step 1: Choose Your Coffee & The Right Grind
Start with our quality, coarse-ground coffee. Coarse grounds work best for cold brews because they allow for a slow extraction and prevent the brew from becoming too bitter.
2️⃣ Step 2: Mix Water & Coffee
Water Temperature: Combine the coarse coffee grounds with room-temperature (around 68°F or 20°C) or colder water in a large jar or pitcher. We recommend brewing and storing in the fridge since room temperature storage is more prone to bacterial growth.
Coffee-to-Water Ratio: The ratio of coffee to water really depends on how strong you like your cold brew. Some recipes call for 1:6, 1:4, or even 1:2 ratios. These ratios usually aim to make concentrate that later gets diluted with more water or milk. We recommend making your cold brew ready-to-drink by starting with a 1:10 ratio (so 60 g of coarse ground coffee in 600 mL of water) and adjusting this ratio based on how strong you like your coffee! Use our Cold Brew Calculator to nail your ratio!
3️⃣ Step 3: Stir & Soak
Stir the mixture gently to ensure all the coffee grounds are wet. Cover the jar with a lid or a small cloth and let it sit at room temperature or in your fridge. Allow it to steep for 12 to 24 hours. Our recommended sweet spot is 16 to 18 hours in the fridge!
4️⃣ Step 4: Strain the Brew
After steeping, place the sieve or cheesecloth over the large bowl. Pour the coffee mixture through the sieve to remove the coarse grounds. Strain twice or line your sieve with a coffee filter to ensure a clear brew.
5️⃣ Step 5: Transfer to a Clean Container
Once strained, transfer your cold brew to a clean storage container. Seal and refrigerate. This can be kept for up to two weeks.
6️⃣ Step 6: Serve, Sip & Savor
Ready-to-Drink: To serve, pour directly over ice for a refreshing drink!
Concentrate: To serve, dilute the concentrate with water, milk, or your favorite add-in to your taste. A good starting ratio is 1 part coffee concentrate to 1 part water or milk, but you can adjust this depending on how strong you prefer your coffee. Serve it over ice for a refreshing drink!
7️⃣ Step 7: Customize (Optional)
Customize your cold brew by adding sweeteners, flavorings like vanilla or caramel, or even a bit of cream. Each addition can make your cold brew experience uniquely delightful.
ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE:
Experiment with Time: Experiment with the steeping time to find the strength and flavor profile that best suits your taste. Longer steeping times lead to more potent brews.
Storage: Keep your cold brew coffee refrigerated and tightly sealed to maintain freshness.
Dilution: If your cold brew is too strong, simply dilute it with more water or milk, or alter the coffee-to-water brewing ratio!
Remember that enjoying cold brew coffee is about more than just the beverage. It’s about the fun of discovering your perfect cup through experimentation and customization! 🥶

Sourcing & Quality
Where is your coffee sourced from?
Our coffee comes from all over the world—Ethiopia, Colombia, Honduras, Papua New Guinea, and beyond. We source from farms and cooperatives across five major growing regions: Central America, South America, East Africa, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. We carefully select single-origin beans from regions known for their unique flavor profiles, elevation, and growing practices.
Moreover, every blend we offer is crafted using only single origins—never blends of blends of blends of blends... you get the point! This approach allows us to create clean, consistent, and flavorful profiles while preserving the distinct character of each origin.
What do you mean when you say your coffee is "specialty grade?"
Unlike common marketing terms like "gourmet coffee," specialty-grade coffee is a regulated distinction and recognized category of coffee in and of itself.
At Wonder Waves Coffee, all of our coffee offerings are specialty grade!
What is specialty-grade coffee?
Specialty coffee is defined by its exceptional quality, scoring 80 points or above out of 100 when evaluated by certified tasters. According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), 350 grams of green coffee are analyzed to ensure it's free of any primary defects and has no more than five secondary defects.
This grade of coffee is grown in specific geographical areas and microclimates by small producers prioritizing quality from farm to cup. Every step—planting, harvesting, selecting, processing, storing, roasting, grinding, and extracting—is meticulously handled to produce a coffee with complex flavors.
Buying these beans supports fair prices for coffee farmers, ensuring they are compensated fairly for their arduous work and dedication to producing high-quality coffee. This not only improves their livelihoods but also encourages sustainable farming practices that help maintain the quality and availability of specialty coffee for future generations.
Bottom Line: Specialty-grade coffee represents the pinnacle of coffee quality. Cultivated in optimal conditions with ideal weather and nutrient-rich soil, it undergoes meticulous processing and expert roasting. The result is an exceptionally flavorful cup of coffee that is virtually free from defects.
Why is specialty-grade coffee pricier than standard coffee?
Specialty-grade coffee tends to be pricier due to its rarity. These coffee beans are produced in limited quantities, with farmers dedicating significant effort to ensure top-notch quality. Furthermore, the roasting process for specialty coffee is more costly and time-consuming compared to that of lower-grade coffees.
In addition, paying fair wages to the farmers and producers behind each bag is a key part of the specialty coffee model. This ethical sourcing approach ensures that everyone involved in the supply chain is compensated responsibly for their craftsmanship and labor—something mass-produced coffee often overlooks.
How exactly is specialty coffee graded?
Coffee is evaluated based on various criteria such as appearance, aroma, flavor, acidity, body, and aftertaste. The maximum possible score is 100 points, with coffees scoring 80 points or higher classified as specialty grade.
Is all whole bean coffee specialty grade?
If only it were that simple! No, not all Whole Bean Coffee is specialty grade. Whole Bean refers to coffee beans that are not yet ground, while specialty grade refers to the quality classification of the coffee bean itself.
How do I know I’m getting good value for what I’m paying?

Do you test your coffee for mold and mycotoxins?
Our FDA-registered and and FSMA-compliant roasting partner monitors each bag from farm to finish, ensuring mold-free green coffee. Roasting kills any potential mold, so we don't specifically test for mold or mycotoxins post-roast.
With our roasted-to-order coffee and immediate direct shipping, you can trust our coffee is among the safest specialty coffee available!
Is your coffee kosher?
While our coffee isn't formally certified as kosher, it adheres to all the necessary requirements typically associated with kosher foods.
Our coffee is purely sourced and prepared with the utmost care, ensuring that it meets the standards that would classify it as kosher under traditional guidelines. We use specialty-grade beans and avoid any additives or processes that could compromise its compliance with kosher practices.
If you have specific kosher certification needs or questions, we recommend consulting with your rabbi or religious advisor to ensure our coffee meets your requirements.
Are there any sugars or additives in your coffee?
No, we don't add sugar to any of our specialty-grade coffee, whether single-origin or blended.
In fact, all of our coffee is pure and unadulterated, without any additives, unnatural flavors, or hidden ingredients!
Shipping & Freshness
What do you mean when you say your coffee is "roasted to order?"
"Roasted to order" means we don't start roasting your coffee until you place an order with us. You heard that right—your coffee is prepared JUST for you!
You will NEVER (and we mean never) receive coffee from us that has been pre-roasted and sitting on a shelf or in a warehouse.
Why do you roast to order instead of keeping inventory?
Because fresh coffee just tastes better. By roasting after you order, we ensure your beans arrive at peak freshness—never stale or sitting on a shelf. It's one more way we prioritize quality over convenience.
When can I expect my coffee order to arrive?
All our coffee is shipped to arrive just as it reaches PEAK flavor.
Domestic orders generally take 1-3 business days to process and roast before shipping out. Once shipped, delivery takes about 1-5 business days, depending on your location.
This means you should expect to receive your fresh coffee in approximately a week, if not sooner!
Does your business model affect freshness or shipping times?
Only in the best way! Our coffee is roasted in small batches after you order, which means it's never sitting on a shelf. We ship directly from our roasting partner to you—fresh and efficiently. The result? Peak flavor and a seamless experience without added middlemen or delays.
When was my coffee roasted? Is it printed on the bag?
Freshness is our thing. All of our coffee is roasted and shipped on the same day—so you can count your roast date as the day it left our hands and started its journey to yours. Because all our coffee is roasted to order, we don’t print the exact roast date on the bag—but you’ll always know your beans are as fresh as they come. That’s our promise.
Do you offer FREE shipping?
Absolutely!
We offer 100% FREE shipping to all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, no matter the product, the number of items in your cart, or the shipping destination.
Let's just say we like keeping things simple, flexible, and in your favor.
Do you offer expedited shipping?
We don't offer expedited shipping for three key reasons:
We feel it often sets unrealistic expectations and we don't want to lead you astray.
Avoiding extra charges for you and keeping them at bay is important to us.
Most importantly, our standard process allows for your freshly roasted coffee to de-gas in transit (this starts immediately after the roasting process) which ensures your coffee arrives at peak flavor!
What are your shipping methods?
Each of our orders is unique, and the shipping package and method are based on what's best for the shipping process. In general:
Orders containing a single 3-oz or 12-oz bag ship via USPS First Class
Orders containing a single 16-oz bag ship via FedEx 2Day
Orders containing 2 to 8 packages ship via USPS Priority Mail (flat rate or regional)
Orders containing 9 or more packages ship via UPS ground
Do you fulfill or ship orders on weekends?
While we're always working to get your coffee to you as quickly as possible, we don’t process or ship orders over the weekend. We believe in supporting a healthy work-life balance for our team, which means weekends are time for rest and family. Any orders placed on Saturday or Sunday will begin processing first thing Monday!
This approach allows us to serve you better—with fresh coffee and a recharged, dedicated Brew Crew behind every order.
Do you ship your coffee internationally?
Currently, we’re keeping our coffee close to home, shipping to all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico! But who knows? We’re always on the lookout for new adventures and hope to set sail on international waters in the future.
Stay tuned—you may see us in your corner of the world before you know it!
Returns & Exchanges
What is your coffee's return policy?
Because coffee is a food product and because our coffee is roasted to order especially for YOU, we can't accept returns (unless we've specifically requested a return in writing). Plus, that would be a bit gross and bad for the environment, wouldn’t it?
However, if your order was incorrect or damaged in transit, you were dissatisfied with your coffee, have questions about how to brew it, or have general concerns about its quality, our Brew Crew is standing by to help!
Please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order, and we'll do everything we can to make it right.
