✦ Making Waves for Our Oceans ✦

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."

— Jacques Cousteau

Oceanographer & Conservationist

Wonder Runs Deep

The Ocean Is The Reason

Welcome to the very heart of our ocean mission. Some brands add a cause because it looks good on paper. We built ours around one because there was no other way to do it. Wonder Waves Coffee exists at the intersection of exceptional coffee and a healthy ocean. Neither was an afterthought. Neither is optional.

We're not an ocean-branded company. We're an ocean-driven one. There's a difference. One puts waves on a bag. The other funds verified plastic recovery, restores coastal ecosystems, and sources with intention.

Whether you found us through the coffee or already knew about the cause, welcome to the other half of the story.

"The ocean is the planet's life support system."

— Sir David Attenborough

Why The Ocean

Everything Starts Here

The ocean doesn't just cover our planet. It runs it. Understanding what's at stake is where everything else begins.

Impact Pillar #1

Ocean Health

The ocean regulates the planet before it ever reaches our cups. Protecting it means stopping what shouldn't reach the water, restoring what's already been lost, and rethinking what we put into the system from the start.

Impact Pillar #2

Climate Action

Climate change doesn't ask permission before it reaches a coastline or a coffee farm. We back the science working to slow it down, because a warming ocean and a failing harvest are the same problem in two places.

Impact Pillar #3

Social Good

No system holds together without the people running it. From the workers pulling plastic from the water to the growers keeping farms alive through a changing climate, real impact runs through real livelihoods first.

The Framework in Action

Where Impact Gets Real

Three pillars set the direction.
Five commitments carry the weight.

Here's the work behind it all.

Our Key Impacts

Plastic bag floating in open ocean water below the surface

Plastic Interception

Ocean-bound plastic rarely gets stopped at the source. It gets pulled from the water long after the damage starts, if it gets pulled at all. Our collection networks work upstream, funding recovery in coastal communities where the infrastructure to manage waste doesn't yet exist. Every pound intercepted is a pound that never reaches the reefs and shorelines we depend on.

Ecosystem Restoration

Mangrove forests are quiet engines, working long before anyone notices what they hold together. They store carbon, shelter biodiversity, and buffer coastlines from erosion that the ocean can't afford to lose. Restoring them protects the systems that ocean health depends on. It's slow work, root by root, but it's the kind that holds everything else in place.

Agricultural innovation

A warming ocean doesn't stay contained to the water. Rising temperatures reshape rainfall, growing seasons, and the stability of the communities that depend on both. Through membership in World Coffee Research, we're investing in innovation for coffee agriculture and the future of coffee, because the coffee we roast and the coastlines we protect share the same climate.

Community Elevation

Coastal communities and the coffee farmers who supply us absorb the earliest and heaviest costs of a changing climate, often with the least support to recover from them. Fair wages, healthcare access, and real economic opportunity aren't separate from ocean conservation. They're what makes it possible for the people doing the work to keep doing it.

Circular Intention

The decisions that matter most happen before a product ever ships. Waste is easier to design out at the start than to clean up at the end, and intentional packaging costs less than the alternative down the line. It's a standard we hold ourselves to. From our compostable coffee bags to sourcing partners, the choices that count answer to it, long before a bag reaches your hands.

"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it."

Plastic Recovery

1 lb of Plastic Removed per lb of Coffee Sold

Every pound of coffee sold (or item sold) funds a pound of ocean-bound plastic removal through our proud partnership with CleanHub, keeping it out of the water for good.

0%

of ocean plastic pollution originates on land

Info icon
Land-based sources like littering, poor waste management, and stormwater runoff account for the majority of plastic that ends up in the ocean.

0M+

metric tons of plastic enter our oceans yearly

Info icon
Without significant intervention, this figure is projected to nearly triple by 2040.

Why Ocean Plastic?

Plastic doesn't stay where it's dumped. It moves with currents, breaks into microplastics, and enters the food chain long before reaching open water. By 2050, the ocean is projected to hold more plastic than fish by weight if nothing changes. It doesn't disappear once it's in the water, it breaks down for centuries, which is why removing it before it does matters more than any cleanup after the fact.

Coastal Restoration

1 Mangrove Tree Restored per Bag of Coffee Sold

Every bag sold (or item sold) funds a mangrove restored through our proud partnership with Seatrees, protecting coastlines that store carbon and shelter marine life.

0%

of coastal carbon storage comes from mangroves

Info icon
Despite covering just 0.1% of the planet's surface, mangrove forests store an incredibly disproportionate share of the world's coastal carbon.

0 lbs

of CO₂ sequestered per mangrove, over a lifetime

Info icon
That figure covers the tree alone. Most of a mangrove ecosystem's carbon is stored below the surface, in root systems and soil, often several times what the tree stores above ground.

Why Mangroves?

A mangrove forest doesn't just sit along a coastline, it holds that coastline together. Roots lock carbon into soil for centuries, sequestering 5 to 10 times more CO₂ per hectare than tropical rainforests. Much of that capacity comes from the ocean, which holds nearly 90% of all carbon in the planet's natural cycle. That's blue carbon, one of the most powerful climate tools we have.

People & Planet: The Ripple Effect

Stopping Plastic at the Source

Millions live without access to proper waste management, forcing them to dump, burn, or abandon plastic. Your purchase helps fund collection systems in vulnerable coastal communities—keeping plastic out of nature and protecting marine ecosystems from further harm.

Defending Biodiversity

Mangrove forests and the oceans they connect to are home to some of the planet's richest ecosystems. From delicate coral reefs to the countless species that call mangrove roots home, your purchase helps protect habitats that sustain life, stabilize climate systems, and inspire future generations.

Creating Dignified Jobs

Waste workers are often among the most marginalized, doing essential work with little recognition or protection. We help support programs that formalize the sector, providing fair wages, safe working conditions, and real development opportunities, especially for women and underserved groups who carry much of this labor.

Strengthening Coastal Communities

Cleaner, more resilient coastlines mean stronger, healthier communities. Your support enables the expansion of waste recovery and mangrove planting efforts to more underserved areas, reducing pollution and improving public health along the way. It also funds education, equipping communities and young people with the knowledge to keep progress going.

Resilience from Farm to Cup

Rising ocean temperatures don't stay offshore. They reshape rainfall, growing seasons, and the future of the farms that grow what you drink. Your purchase helps fund the research and innovation, from climate-resilient coffee varieties to smarter growing practices, keeping farming communities ahead of a changing climate.

Sourcing with Intention

Every choice compounds: the bag that holds it, the farm it's grown on, the supplier behind every ingredient and every product we put our name on. So we ask questions most brands skip, because the most impactful decisions happen before a product ever ships, not after it becomes a problem downstream.
